Two Survive Xinjiang Canoe Expedition
Two of the six adventurers feared lost in the Xinchiang region have been found alive after spending more than 20 days in a cave. According to the BBC, the survivors report being thrown from their canoes on the upper reaches of the turbulent Yurungkax River in Xinjiang region of western China.
The group set out on their trip down the river on 15 August. The search was initiated after the group missed a rendezvous on 2 September.
Their survival will be interesting tale -- the region is very rough and uninhabited and averages of 4,000 meters in elevation. The two lost most of their gear with the canoes and are reported to have sheletered in a cave, covering themselves at night with branches as defense against the cold.
The six travelers were all Russian. The bodies of the other four individuals have already been recovered.
